Safe choice for a Midwest mom (mine was visiting and wouldnt go anywhere without tikki masala), and also highly satisfying for a more particular chicago native.

Plenty of veggie/ seafood options, the BYOB is a great perk!

Indian Clay Pot is a great option for those seeking a delicious and affordable introduction to North Indian cuisine. The use of clay pots adds a unique touch to their dishes, and the friendly service creates a welcoming atmosphere. While the ambiance might be casual and seating limited, the flavorful food, reasonable prices, and genuine hospitality make it a worthwhile visit.

Been ordering here for years, always great food and good prices. Recent expansion of the storefront hasn't slowed down service!

  • *****

We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. The garlic naan was honestly not great, it was pretty tough and didnt have any of those characteristic bubbles and could not be pulled apart easily. The butter chicken and CTM were good, but I have had better. The chicken was a little tough in both and unseasoned. It was also very expensive

  • *****

Everything was made fresh and great service (:

Indian here - this is good Indian food in Chicago. You get what you expect. Decent food, excellent service. Price is okay for the US - atrocious compared to India. Good choice if you miss home or want to try Indian food for the first time. North Indian selection only, but staff told me that the chef is South Indian (?). Great overall.

What an awesome place. Don't be mistaken by the look of the outside right now. It's definitely open but expanding. Entrance is at the corner of Ravenswood and Irving.
The food is so delicious and they have some really unique options.

  • *****

The food at this restaurant was really, really good! The Garlic Naan, Chicken 65 and Kadhai shrimp were awesome . The dishes are perfect blend of spices, creating a flavorful and perfectly seasoned. We loved it a lot, and it's a great place to go if you want yummy food with good portions. Highly recommended!

I ordered takeout from here, hoping to find my new go-to Indian place and I was super impressed with this place. The butter chicken I ordered was flavorful and the samosas were the best Ive had in a long time. Will order from here again and try another dish!

This is my favorite restaurant. The typical order we get is Veggie Samosas and Butter Paneer Masala with Garlic Naan. However, everything that we've tried there has been terrific.

The atmosphere there is extremely homey, especially being BYOB...LOVE grabbing a nice bottle wine to accompany the meal! Or if you just want to order to go and enjoy at home, then you're sure to be happily filled.

  • *****

Waitress was super nice, explained the menu, food was great.

We enjoyed a delicious meal, on the patio, during a pleasant summer evening. The servers were extremely attentive. Smiles everywhere, which is always a great sign. Im entering this spot on my Nice list.

  • *****

Excellent service and good food. Chicken Tikka was very succulent and the biryani was well made. This restaurant comes under the top 55 Indian restaurants in US! Worth it!

  • *****

Got 2 orders of chili Gobi to go and didn't check to see if it was all there. They didn't want to refund part of the order, instead they made sure to deliver the Gobi to me on their way to other deliveries. Thanks for great food and customer service!

  • *****

Amazing food!!!!! So glad we ordered so much to take home and enjoy again! Cute back patio. Lovely and attentive service.

    Great tasting food

  • *****

Really great Indian food! It wasn't as spicy as I expected unfortunately, so you might need to ask for it to be spicier(if that's what you want). Otherwise the flavors were incredible. We had the chicken 65, chili cauliflower, garlic naan and lamb vindaloo. Each were delicious in their own way: if I had to choose one I definitely would've gotten the lamb vindaloo again... Just with a bit more spice!

Food comes out super fast here and service is great so you won't need to worry about waiting too long!

  • *****

    Amazing!

  • *****

Great food. So many gluten free options and labeled on the menu so its easy to know what you can or cannot eat.

Service is a little slow, but the food is worth the wait!

  • *****

I absolutely love this place - everyone there is so nice and the food is delicious! Portions are generous and the prices are totally reasonable plus I always have enough left over to bring plenty home with me. AND they're open until 10pm on week nights!

  • *****

    Delicious!

  • *****

Our entrees didn't have a lot of flavor but it's a really nice pace and our bread and appetizer were some of the best I've ever had!

  • *****

Every meal here I've had here has been delicious and the staff are great as well. Take-out and delivery are also an A+. The restaurant is BYOB and the outdoor area in the back is a nice spot to sit in during Chicago's precious warmer months.

The chicken biryani is one of the best in the Chicago area. It's close to the Hyderabad biryani style. I have had several biryani from the Devon area but still this one is the best.

  • *****

Everything tastes great especially the vegetarian dishes.

  • *****

Delicious and consistent go to Indian delivery and take out. Delivery really is a tough way to gauge a place because there are factors outside of their co tell but their quality and reliability shines through every time regardless of that. Hot, clearly freshly prepared, quality ingredients are all on display every time. Butter chicken, Chicken Tikka, Palak Paneer, Vindaloo, Onion Pakora, raita and garlic naan of course, I have yet to experience anything short of exactly what you want and expect. Whether you get it spicy or not the flavors always shine through and are the star, already ready for my next order.

My wife and I have had Indian food at many places in this world (that aren't in India) and this one rates amongst the best. We brought a couple with us who had never had it before and they were very impressed at the complex flavours, and the fact that it wasn't just all about hot chillis.

  • *****

Seriously out of all the Indian restaurants places Ive been to in IL, this is seriously the BEST on my list. Though I can say they tend to over salt their Fried Onion Pakora, so ask for less or no salt.

My favorite dishes to order are:
    Fried Onion Pakora
    Butter Masala Sauce or Dish
    Turmeric Rice
    Malai Kofta
    Garlic Naan
    Red Bean Dal

All these dishes are really special & I promise that you can trust me, Im a foodie and this place is the SPOT

Also be aware when you order to go they will give you a white rice with every dish you order! Hehe

  • *****

Nice experience... I like it .

  • *****

Im giving this restaurant 5 stars because food was truly tasty and everything was delicious!

Just know its expensive and about 90% of the menu is a dish sold separately. Nothing comes with your entree. So any rice, naan/Roti, even the sauces is an additional cost and must be ordered separately.

Every restaurant is different and this is how they do things, so just be ready to spend between $50 and $100 on 2 people depending what you order.

We spent close to 100 including tip. Food was delicious, but we wont see this spot again unless its a VERY special occasion.

This restaurant is unreal! 10/10; the food is so delicious and well-favored. The environment was so welcoming I love everything about this restaurant and will be returning soon! Perfect date night

  • *****

    Great service and food.

  • *****

Took food to go. It was both delicious and abundant. Ok to share dishes.

  • *****

Very good service and even better food :)

  • *****

Really delicious food and great service! We have eaten here and gotten take out and the quality of food has been great both times. The service is quick and polite, and we usually receive our food within 15 minutes of ordering. We recommend the aloo gobi and palak paneer. The entrees might be a little expensive if you buy several, but the food has always been really delicious.

  • *****

My all time favorite restaurant in Lakeview! (Maybe even Chicago!) My go-to Indian cuisine spot. I seriously order once a week, minimum. Chicken tikka masala is the chefs kiss cant recommend this place enough. Take out or dine in. Both taste 10/10

  • *****

The food is good. However, the dining room is very loud and I left with a headache. The space could really benefit from acoustic panels and more soft surfaces.

  • *****

Delicious food. Great for dine in and takeout. Get the crispy chicken or onion pakora

  • *****

Indian Clay pot is my favorite Indian food in the city. They have an amazing menu with a gargantuan span of spectacular and flavorful options. I have not had a dish here that I have not loved and every friend I have shared food with here has felt the same.

The flavors here rich and deep. They have a variety of spice levels for food and many kinds of naan to choose from. I usually start with one of their varieties of samosa but they have lots of appetizer options. The herb paneer and mushroom masala was great but tried a bite of my friends lamb tikka masala and honestly it was the best dish at the table. I am eager to try more dishes.

I will continue to come back and also when I ordered for delivery in the past, the food was still great. I highly recommend this place and hope you love it as much as I have.

I took the Brown line to work this morning and could smell the early cooking of the restaurant. As with many places, I think Ill try it another day, but the moment all those spices hit me, I just had to commit. Ended up coming here for dinner later on and ordered the Keema Samosa, Baingan Bharta, Bhindi Masala, Lamb Clay Pot, with saffron rice & garlic naan.

The samosa was crispy with a finely minced lamb filling. Baingan Bharta and Bhindi Masala were exploding with flavor, could not get enough of either. The Lamb Clay Pot was soothing with delicate pieces of meat & potato that seem to melt in your mouth. The rice was buttery and bright in presentation. Hands down the best naan Ive ever had, wonderful crisp but with that soft, tear it apart, and dippable wonder.

The staff were really lovely and while the furnishings are relatively bare, do not pass this place up. I wish I took photos, but I was too busy enjoying the meal and being in the moment.

Today I eat food is good test is awesome I like it I give 5stars and service also is great the girls are very nice good service all girls

  • *****

Awesome food good service I like the service

  • *****

Fantastic fish pakora and fish curry.

  • *****

Wow was the food flavorful. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the spices in the air. I got the clay pot with lamb. Outstanding! Every bite was amazing. The garlic naan was also delicious! The only downside is the price, it is kind of expensive. With that said, it's well worth the money. I can't afford to go often, but it'll be a great treat for when I want to spoil myself a bit

  • *****

I'm not a huge fan of Indian cuisine, but I really do like the food here. Most staff are quite friendly and the service is quick. The lunch buffet is well-stocked with great choices and flavors, as well.

  • *****

Great restaurant .always keep consistent food...we tried multiple time ...every time we lovebtjis place...

  • *****

Amazing service!! The food is incredible and the curry makes you craving to return.

This is a great gem of an Indian restaurant in Chicago and surprisngly its not located in Rogers Park or off Devon Ave!

Nestled in the Ravenswood neighborhood, this restaurant serves up authentic Indian cuisine and also a bit of Indian-Asian fusion. The chicken and lamb biryani over here is a must have and one of my favorite Biryanis in the Chicagoland area. Get it regular spicy if you're not a wuss! Its the best way to enjoy it and not really that spicy.

One of my other favorites here is the Chicken Madras which seems similar to a Butter Chicken visually but what makes it special is the addition of coconut cream which adds a very subtle coconut taste to this beautiful aromatic, bright and saucy chicken dish.

The portions here are great. We were 3 people and 2 dishes were more than enough but definitely make sure to order plenty of garlic naan for the saucy dishes!

The interior of the restaurant is quaint, cozy and has warm inviting colors and Indian decor. The service here is very good as well.

Overall you MUST try this restaurant. Theres a reason why when you walk in you'll see tens of different orders lined up on tables ready to be picked up! People love this place!

The best Indian food Ive had in Chicago!

  • *****

Indian Clay Pot is UNREAL. Ive had a wide variety of their vegetarian options, since everything Ive had has been delicious. They really keep me coming back for more! The paneer curry, daal, chana masala, and samosas are among my faves. The naan is usually pretty good, but I have ordered it for delivery and had it come a bit dry. Despite the texture, the naan is a great way to carry the flavors, textures, and delicious spices to your mouth. The onion naan is pretty sweet, while the garlic one is pretty neutral. The rice is also great and saves well - I usually get a meal or two with rice and naan and it lasts like 3 meals for me. I usually get it delivery, which is organized and really remarkably fresh. Ive also eaten in, which was lovely! The food came out as it was ready, which is a great perk. Ive eaten a lot of Indian food and this is my fave spot in chicago. Check it out - you wont regret it.

  • *****

One of the indian restaurants in chicago! I gave it five stars.

  • *****

Ive ordered takeout and delivery a couple times now. Indian Clay Pot is soooo good! I cant speak about a variety of their dishes as Ive ordered Chicken Tikka Masala almost every time, but its freakin delicious. The chicken is super tender, and the sauce is perfectly creamy and spiced. I pretty much crave it all the time now. Their naan is very solid too, and the Butter Chicken was tasty. But the Tikka Masala is the star of this show!

  • *****

I ate here twice. Delicious food, big portions, interesting Indian beers to try, fast friendly accommodating service.

  • *****

Favorite Indian food spot in Chicago

  • *****

    Fresh as always...

  • *****

    Def try the masala

  • *****

Imho, they have the best chicken tikka masala in the city, period. The naan is also fantastic

  • *****

We loved Indian Clay Pot. They have a cozy back patio behind the restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly. We got the onion pakora, veggie tikka masala, herb rice and garlic naan. The highlight of the meal was the mint cilantro chutney. We will definitely be coming back!

  • *****

It was a very tasteful experience, everything that we ordered was amazing, and the company was even better,it was a wonderful night, first time going there, loved it

  • *****

I have gotten take out from Clay Pot multiple times and it has been delicious every time but yesterday we dined in and wow! When we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out we said inside until we saw the patio! It is so cute and private and plenty of fans to keep us cool. Our waiter was also so so so great and accommodating of our table switch. Food wise: I LOVE the onion pakora. Ugh. So good. The only problem is I ate so many! I normally order the typical chicken tikka masala or butter chicken but I decided to try the HERB CHICKEN yesterday and it was amazing. Could not recommend more.

  • *****

Definitely worth your time and money... Food is great and the place is pretty cool

    June 2021

Very much delicious food and always a warm welcome!

  • *****

Loved every bite of the food. Ordered baigan bhartha with tandoori roti, felt like I was eating homemade food with amazing spice levels. Ordered chef made mango kulfi to finish with which was great too.

  • *****

This is the 3rd time Ive eaten at Indian Clay Pot, I wish I could give them more than five stars. Hands-down one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the city of Chicago. Attentive waitstaff, excellent temperature and flavor of food, all portion sizes are great. Love the lamb biryani, chili gobi dishes. A+ Chicago restaurant. Kudos to the chef, they definitely know what theyre doing here! Ill be spending many more evenings eating in and or ordering out from them. Thank you again for having us!

  • *****

Excellent food really tasty we had swag lamb and chicken Tikka masala with vegetable biryani it was soooo delicious

  • *****

Tasty Indian food, affordable prices, good service (carry out - haven't eaten in restaurant yet, but it looks nice) - definitely a repeat performance for me

  • *****

This place is always good and very consistent. The lamb biryani is so delicious I want to keep eating it long after Im full - and the portion size is large so there are always leftovers and it warms up really well. Naan is fantastic, mango lassi is flavorful and refreshing, the vegetable samosas are filling and have a bit of heat and are so tasty. Flavors are spot on. Go to Indian spot for sure.

  • *****

The food is very good as always, I would recommend it to anyone who never tried Indian cuisine.

  • *****

So SO GOOD!!! BEST INDIAN FOOD IN CHICAGO!!

  • *****

Really great food and staff. Enjoyed the butter chicken very much. I'm usually hesitant to try Indian cuisine because I have a cilantro aversion, but the staff were so helpful in pointing me to dishes and modifying preparations, will definitely be back.

Update two years later: I was back. This is still my favorite and I eat here multiple times a month. When me or my partner have a bad day, we usually communicate that by just suggesting we order from Indian Clay Pot.

  • *****

The food was undoubtedly delicious, the place was cozy and nice, however the weather was about 93 degrees felt like 100 though, they had full House indoors, so we have to chose between waiting for 30 mins or having dinner outside, so we went outside and we were offered a big fan and unlimited ice the staff was super friendly and nice, I would rate with 5 stars but the only downside is that they took more time to serve of what we expected in rush hours.

  • *****

    Great food

  • *****

My new favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago. Amazing dosa!!!!

  • *****

A bit different than what you may think of in your typical Indian Restaurant. Offer a variety of different curries and gravies that I hadn't seen before. Everyone is exceedingly friendly and hospitable, and service was great. Food was good, and garlic naan was damn-near "to die for". My only complaint is that there were times I feel we were being blatantly upsold on items, but that's not uncommon.

Note: I was prompted to write this review by the restaurant, but I would've written a great review of my own accord nonetheless!

  • *****

Menu is excellent. Nice vibe in the restaurant. BYOB.

  • *****

If you are not sure what to order or this is your first Indian food experience, ask the waiters. They are excellent at offering recommendations and they always bring out something you will like.

  • *****

though not as deep indian flavor as I prefer, was actually pretty good. Terrace is very nice

  • *****

Delicious food, lovely outdoor patio, great service!

  • *****

The chicken madras and garlic naan are incredible! Make sure to order a side of rice since the entrees wont come with any, but the side of rice feeds two!

  • *****

We recently bought Lamb Biriyani and was the best biriyani around chicago. The food tasted very good.

This is an UPDATE to my previous review (below). Since then, the owner contacted us and offered to have us come back and have another meal that he would help prepare and make sure was just right. It was an extremely generous offer, and I would like to emphasize that no matter what I ultimately thought about the food, I was really impressed by motivation he had to improve our experience.

So, back to the food: we ordered a couple new things and a couple of the same things as the first time to see if they were improved. We got the chili gobi, which is fried cauliflower in chili sauce. I believe this is a sort of Indo-Chinese dish; it definitely has a Chinese type of flavor to it. I thought it was really tasty and addictive. We re-ordered the same meat samosas from the first time, and they were so much different than what we originally had, I'm starting to think we might've just received the wrong dish the first time. These were full of meat, so that was great. We also got lamb saag, which was tasty, and re-ordered the chicken kadai. The owner made sure to clarify what we did/didn't like from the first time. Our biggest issue was lack of spice, so he spiced it up for us and that improved it a lot. I think it was also just a better batch this time, as the consistency of the sauce was thicker and more like what I think kadai should be like.

I will note also that for us (being people that have lots of experience with indian food), the experience was different than those who don't have as much experience or just don't like spice. I can't blame the owner for catering to the tastes of the neighborhood as a whole (that is to say, mostly non-Indian customers).

    OLD REVIEW:
I am really surprised at the discrepancy between what I read about this place in the reviews before going, and my experience there. I have a few different categories to comment on, namely Service/atmosphere, taste (objectively), and authenticity.

    1. Service/atmosphere: The overall space is nice and clean, and we opted to sit in their cute little back patio since it was a nice day. However, 2 main things bothered me. The first is that the atmosphere was as if we had come in before they were even ready to be open, even though they had been open for an hour when we got there. The staff were sort of milling around aimlessly and still setting things up. When the hostess asked a server to take us back to the patio, she looked annoyed and proceeded to keep up a very strange attitude throughout the meal: some mixture of confusion and distaste. We were really trying to be nice, so I don't know what her deal is. There was a guy helping her out that was more accommodating and kind though.

    2. Taste: the overall taste of the food was fine. There was nothing appalling. The best thing I tried was the chicken biryani, which had a nice flavor and chunks of chicken. This brings me though, to point 3.

    3. Authenticity: One of the dishes I tasted was the chicken karahi. I am not an expert on Indian food, but I have tasted many versions of karahi, and let me tell you one thing it should be: spicy. The dish we got was literally sweet and nothing like what anyone who has had karahi more than once would expect it to be. I was very confused about that. I also tried a samosa that is supposed to be mostly filled with meat, and I could barely find a bite of meat in it. So those were disappointing.

Overall, I feel let down by this experience. All the reviews talk about how accommodating and wonderful the service is, and how true and authentic the food tastes. I felt like I wasn't even in the same restaurant as those reviews. Bad luck, I suppose.

Weather you love Indian cuisine or not, this place will sure leave you satisfied. Ive turned many of my picky eater friends onto Indian cuisine from trying this restaurant. Pictured here is the tandori chicken with a side of vegetable samosas. The red sauce tends to be a little more sweet/spicy where the green sauce is more spicy and not so sweet. But if you enjoy spicy food then you cant go wrong with either definitely would give this place a shoot

Wow! I just ordered this for dinner. Delicious! I got the veggie samosa- perfect, crispy without being greasy. I also got the paneer butter masala and the basmati rice- so flavorful and fresh!!

No lie, they have the best chicken tikka masala in the city, period. The naan is also fantastic

The curry here is fantastic - a perfect combination of flavor and heat. I like it with lamb, which is tender and tasty. The tikka masala is also great and is honestly one of the Indian dishes I've ever had. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some yummy Indian cuisine.

Food was hot, tasty, and delivery was FAST! Got my food within 19 minutes of ordering. The spicy naan was a standout.

Good authentic food, friendly energetic servants and smiling chefs. Even a little backyard for summers. A gem on Irving Park!

At the moment you arrive in that place they give you an agreeable feeling. Very hospitable waiters, it is a friendly restaurant to go out with buddies or with your date. tasty food, professional chief cook and stuff, reasonable pay and generous service. Warmly recommended.

Went to Clay Pot from a recommendation from a friend. I love food of different ethnicities and Im fortunate to live by Indian Village on Devon so I dont have to travel too far to enjoy some authentic Indian cuisine. Clay Pot is on another level. From the first bite of our appetizer with green chutney, you can taste the made from scratch deliciousness. I ordered the lamb masala and my wife ordered the shrimp saag (sp?). Man!, the food was so tender that it melts like butter in your mouth. I have no clue how they made the lamb so tender. I dont think I even chewed the food. I just let it melt inside my mouth. It was incredible! They tailor the spice to your tolerance. I love spicy food but today, I really just wanted flavor and Clay Pot did not disappoint. My wife loved her dish as well. The spinach was velvety smooth and shrimp were tender and plump. Texture and flavor were spot on. Add the friendliness and prompt service by our waitress, Key - and Sai even came out to make sure everything was ok- Better than ok! It was a pleasure talking with him and knowing the genius behind this amazing food. Please thank the rest of your staff on our behalf. We know its not just a couple people making this restaurant work smoothly and deliver great dishes. So even though we live close to Devon, Clay pot is our new favorite for Indian food.

Delicious food, although tweaked for the white palate but still very enjoyable! Definitely try the Gobi Manchurian and Gobi Chilly! We had the Chicken Tikka which was cooked perfectly and I wouldn’t complain about the Paneer Tikka Masala and Clay Pot Chicken either!

Hands down the best Indian food I've ever had. And I've tried a lot of different places. Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Tandoori were both extremely flavorful and delicious. Chicken was perfectly tender and almost melted in your mouth.

It’s our go-to Indian food restaurant! Everything is always fresh and so incredibly delicious. Lots of labels options for vegans which makes choosing these options a lot easier. There are plenty of options for meat eaters and vegetarians too. Highly recommend.

  • *****

Delicious food! We ordered delivery through Caviar and the food arrived hot and quick! Chicken korma and lamb masala are absolutely divine. We also enjoyed the garlic naan.

  • *****

This restaurant has many delicious options and I would go back every time I crave Indian food. I would recommend it if you are food adventurous and don’t mind the different flavors that Indian cuisine offers.

A charming, cozy space (get a table in the back). The dishes are authentic and the spices are not watered down. Chef Sai has created a warm and welcoming dining experience!

We came to this restaurant for dinner. my friend recommended this spot. Well, it was very successful. The staff welcomed us with a smile and we had a fantastic feeling. The food was just great. We enjoyed every moment and we shall absolutely come back again. Recommended.

  • *****

Stopped in for a dosa after work. Service was fast and friendly, food was great. I'll definitely be back soon.

Loved this place! The food and service were both wonderful. Very authentic and flavorful. Options from both northern and southern India. The chef even took the time to come out and say hello.

    10/10 would recommend

Update: 2nd visit : We were offered a complimentary meal and we tried Naans and kofta curry. It was good . Also appreciate their effort to satisfy their customers.

1st visit :We ordered veg biryani, chili chicken paneer tikka masala and corn Manchuria. The veggies were not fresh and tasted like they were rotten. )The sauce was too sweet in the appetizers and didn't taste like Indian at all. We actually were able to eat only the paneer curry. If you want proper Indian food this is not the place.

  • *****

My favorite! My English husband and friends found it! They may have tamed the spice down for me but, it's my go to ... not just local.
Gobi Manchurian is sweet and spicy, lamb Rogan josh is perfectly hardy and spiced

  • *****

Delicious food, friendly and accommodating staff. The vibes here were so relaxing. I was in town for work and had to wait out the traffic. They found me a table in the corner with a plug-in for my laptop and didn't pressure me to hurry and leave. They kept my drinks filled and boxed up my leftovers for me. (Portions were huge!) While I was sitting there there were casual little conversations happening at tables all around me. At one point a woman from another table popped over and asked me if I wanted to help them finish their wine. This place is a true gem.

  • *****

Pretty solid choice for Indian food! I love that they have so many veggie and vegan options. The naan is delicious. Sometimes I just wish the sauces had a bit more flavor.

  • *****

Indian Clay Pot is amazing. Food is delicious, service has been impeccable every time I’ve been and it’s BYOB. A new go-to favorite.

  • *****

HIDDEN GEM ALERT Clay Pot is the perfect spot for delicious Indian food, with ambiance to boot. First of all, everyone was so sweet and inviting the moment we walked in, to the last second we closed down the place. (Seriously, who is that nice!?) Our server gave us all the time we needed, and then gave us some of the TASTIEST damn Indian food I've ever had. And the garlic Naan is NO JOKE (Yum-o'clock!!). Not only that, we got to sit in this fabulous, tidy and quiet little patio space that had just opened. Truly fabulous, and I can't wait to go back!

  • *****

  • *****

The food was terrific - it was a bit of a trek out of downtown Chicago but worth it! I am really glad I read reviews before we went 1 reviewer mentioned that the staff tried to seat them in the front room which is little more than a staging area for take-out! Very unappealing! The same happened to us, so we asked to be seated in back! This room had Bollywood music and beautiful tapestries on the walls! Hope someone from the restaurant reads the reviews!

Really good food with great service. A nice local place.

My wife and I found this restaurant on Yelp when we moved back into the area about a year ago. We had been disappointed that we were so much further away from our favorite Indian restaurant at the time (the spice room) and were hoping to find a new one that was good enough that we didn't have to go across town every time we wanted Indian.

We tried Curry point, but I wasn't a fan - I like spicy curries, I order my vindaloos spicy, etc, but theirs was just all front of the mouth kick your teeth in spicy, with no actual good flavor.

At any rate, we tried Clay pot, hoping to find something passable, and were thrilled to find that we liked it at least as much as our previous favorite. We have fine back at least once a month, and have taken my wife's family a few times as well. We haven't had a dish that we didn't like yet. Their vindaloo is properly spicy, but it's a balanced while mouth kind of spicy so you actually get really good flavor. The chilli chicken is very good. I was hesitant to try the Gongura lamb, but did on the waitress's recommendation and it was very good. The biryani is one of my favorite biryanis that I've had if not my favorite, my wife usually gets lamb korma but really liked the Clay pot lamb which is a bit less cream than a korma. The pakoras (onion and chicken) are great, and my wife (who draws her judgements about how good an Indian restaurant is by their samosas) says these are her favorite.
We've also ordered delivery a number of times and it's always on time or early. They have sent the wrong dish once or twice but it's never been an issue to get it fixed or refunded.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in North Center! I eat here at least 2 times/month or more... I ate here last night and had bhel puri, veg herb masala and mango chicken... all delicious! I love their chicken madras, chicken curry, tandoori chicken, gobi manchurian, chili shrimp... you can pretty much throw a dart at their menu and be assured that whatever you land on will be truly amazing!! The staff here are so warm and friendly as well, they're becoming like family. Do not miss finishing off your meal with their chai/masala tea... it's the best chai I've ever had, and I lived in India for a stint, so consider myself an expert. Go here, enjoy, you will find yourself craving many of their dishes long after you leave!

Delicious Indian food in plentiful portions. I'm glad I stopped in after having ordered delivery for a while: the people working here are kind and friendly, and it feels welcoming and comfortable to dine in. Definitely will be coming back!

  • *****

Good date night option. The fireplace room in front is cozy, or the main space in back is great for groups or a more vibrant atmosphere. Both times I've been, we were able to be seated immediately (weeknights) and had great, attentive service. The vegetarian menu is very strong, as to be expected. Recommend the spicy naan. For the entrees that say spicy, trust that it means spicy! When we took our leftovers to go, they comped us some rice which was a nice touch. BYOB

This little Indian restaurant in North Center serves delicious food. I went with a friend tonight and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We ordered vegetable samosas to start and they were crispy and well-seasoned, served with two chutneys. My friend ordered the Clay Pot Chicken and really liked it. I had Mango Chicken and it was absolutely wonderful: tender chicken pieces served in a rich, sweet and spicy sauce. The sauce had just the right level of sweetness. I was thrilled with the dish!

The naan and roti were good accompaniments to the meal as were the chai and mango lassi we ordered. Overall, it was a great dinner in a charming little restaurant with excellent, friendly service. I'll be going back soon!

  • *****

This was an unforgettable dining experience and excellent service. Some of the best Indian food I've had in recent years. Great flavors and Mitra was a great server! I'll definitely come back soon. I've been told a patio is opening soon for the summer season. Looking forward to many more delicious experiences here!

  • *****

Excellent authentic Indian food!! My favorite part of eating here aside from the amazing food was our server, Mitra. She was super friendly and accommodating to particular food aversions some people in our group had. ImShe also let us know they will be opening their back patio soon. Can't wait, we will definitely be back!

  • *****

Great restaurant! We got the samosas and chicken pakoras for appetizers and they were both delicious. We also got the masala chai which was delicious and didn't need to be sweetened at all. For our entrees I got the paneer butter masala with butter naan and my partner got the chicken tikka Malala with garlic naan. Both dishes were piping hot when we got them and really good. We would definitely come here again!

  • *****

Chicken tikka masala nothing can compare with that, there chicken tikka masala and garlic nan you should try, ate least once in a week I order chicken tikka masala and Garlic nan, there service is very lovely, they really take care you, I highly recommend chicken tikka masala and garlic naan with mango lassi... wow too yummy.....

This restaurant has such amazing food! Their menu is very inclusive, so vegetarians and vegans will definitely find something great to eat. The waitress was very helpful in helping us to decide what to order (there are so many options). I would absolutely recommend Indian Clay Pot- can't wait to go back!

  • *****

This was my first visit to Indian Clay Pot with my husband and it definitely won't be our last! We started with Keema Samosas and enjoyed them. One entree we had was the Clay Pot Chicken. It was quite aromatic - not hot spicy but very flavorful with lots of white meat chicken. We also ordered the Lamb Roganjosh and loved it!! Lamb is not my favorite meat - but this was very good. The sauce is a tomato base. We ordered medium spicy - if you like things hot I would order hot - the medium was truly medium- not too spicy but not bland. I recommend ordering rice (we got plain Basmati) because the sauces are so good you'll want to use the rice to be able to eat up all the sauces! We also ordered plain and garlic naan (bread similar to pita but lighter). We could not finish all of our bread so took some home. We probably could have taken some of our entrees home too - but we were hungry and they were so good so we finished them off. The portions are generous- we're really full!!!! The service was excellent - the staff is very friendly. We sat in the back room and thought the atmosphere was really nice. It's BYOB - so bring your favorite beer/wine to enjoy with a wonderful meal! We were too full to order dessert but noticed they have a few options.

  • *****

Great food, friendly staff. They give large portions and are quick with takeout orders. Love this place. Ate there more than 10 times already.

  • *****

One of the best places to go for authentic Indian food! I love the flavors and the staff is really friendly and helpful. Being Indian, I like the fact that the food is absolutely authentic and healthy, I have even been eating ther frequently. I would totally recommend the place to others and the food is spiced just right.

  • *****

I went my first time this evening. The environment was pretty chill and the staff was very friendly as soon as I walked in the door. I'm vegetarian so I asked for a few suggestions from my waitress which she happily offered. I chose a dish that I'd never had before and ended up not liking, and they bent over backwards to make sure that I left happy. Needless to say, I will be back again and again!

  • *****

Indian Clay Pot make some of the best Indian food I've had in awhile. I went with my family for a dinner. There were three of us, so we tried a bunch of different items. Everything was just amazing! For entrees we had lamb curry and tandoori chicken which I highly recommend. All of it was super yummy and I can't wait to go back

  • *****

I have been eating Indian food my whole life and this is one of the best! At first I was a bit sceptical that this would be an authentic experience, since I used to eat this food only in India. But to my surprise the food was so delicious, fresh Indian cuisine, spiced just right. the meat was tender and aromatic. Service was informative and prompt, yet we were not rushed. I give this place a thumbs up and recommend that you try it

Great food always delicious and keep consistency....I always order their chicken tikka masala and garlic naan.. fantastic ,no one can beet them...

  • *****

This place is a gem, one that invokes a smile while sipping chai after a delicious meal. I don't think we've reason to go to Devon (as much) anymore. It's a cute little place that goes above and beyond in the details. As an affordable Indian restaurant that bothers to add garnishes and use modern cutlery, they boast a warm ambience with a good selection of Bollywood music playing. The food itself is plenty fresh and clean with some interesting options such as a sweet, coconut infused clay pot chicken. The Gobi Manchurian was great, albeit a tad spicy. The chai was rich and creamy although they can go a bit easier with the ginger. This is definitely a place worth visiting regularly. (Also the Turkish restaurant restaurant next door is great too).

Let this be a lesson to you tacky Devon restaurants: you can have good food AND service in a clean, simple environment.

I'm a big fan of this place. It's got the neighborhood vibe, is BYOB, and they serve delicious food. The portions are good sizes and are decently priced. Check it out if you like Indian food

Great food. Little pricey for a tiny Mango Lassi but staff is great and sweet! Location off the Irving Park Brown Line is prime, parking might be tricky though.

  • *****

The food was great. We tried the dosa for the first time, it was a delicious starter. Chana masala was our favorite.
Mitra and the stuff were lovely and gave us fantastic recommendations.Definitely coming back!

  • *****

If you are looking for a good Indian place in the area, this is a good pick. When I want BYOB or takeout Indian, and don't to want to travel all the way to Devon, or Rangoli, this is my pick. The menu is flexible and diverse, and they will give you any level of spice you want. The can make most dishes pretty mild, which is good for my kids--who can't handle the heat from most of the places on Devon we used to frequent.

I agree that it's a bit overpriced, but it's a great option for the area.

  • *****

Great food! Had chicken Tikka Masala and lamb clay pot.
But soon as you get in, the smell was just strong, it sticks on your clothes. Very good service and decent price.

  • *****

Great food. Can be slow service at times, but otherwise nice.

Really enjoyed the food. Took our kids here for their first taste of Indian food and they had a great time. The service was the real standout here. Really terrific. We will go again.

  • *****

Excellent Americanized Indian food. Restaurant is very clean; generous portions for the price. All the usual favorites you expect to see. Our server mixed up one order (we got chicken instead of lamb) but when we pointed this out she apologized and offered to re-make it. We declined; she disappeared and returned later to announce that we would not be charged for it AND she made us two Masala teas to end our meal. Very class act.

I don't usually review on Yelp,
But here I am writing because i really enjoyed my birthday, They treated me and my friends like that. my friend Ann recommended this for My birthday and they took me here. so we came here on last Friday,Eve around 7.30, our waitress was very nice and helpful, explained the food and warned my friend Alex about vindaloo spicy. and we ordered a couple of dishes, including Gobi appetizer.., samosa, onion pakora.
clay pot lamb, gongura lamb, butter chicken, chicken tikki masala, and some other korma.. and the garlic naan was fantastic
everything was great oohhh yes that lamb vindaloo also soo spicy but dancing flavour in the mouth.
So the winner of dinner was chicken tikka masala, lamb vidaloo.

The restaurant was fully packed, Nice Cozy atmosphere Indian music. Actually, we waited lil for entree because of busy. when we enter we saw tons of delivery flying.
Here is the special treat what they did, they give us complimentary mango icecream type with written my name happy birthday with a candle, and they came to wish.. was great made my day.
    we definitely go back.

If you've been looking for an Indian restaurant you'll really love Indian Clay Pot might just be your go to, featuring northern and southern Indian cuisine. Don't be fooled by the humble exterior two doors down from Irving Park Brown Line. My wife and I were welcomed kindly to a nice table in the surprisingly large seating area. The decor is comfortable and the Indian pop music more than once had me into the scene.

Order a dosa! It's a great appetizer with big, rolled up, crispy crepe with savory filling. Four menu options. We got the Masala Dosa. The sambar coconut sauce and tomato chutney are perfect compliments and are very different from each other. Lamb biriyani was what really convinced me this was our new spot. All of the flavors were spot on, and the rice just right. Again more wonderful condiments. Masala Chai was superb! The staff went above and beyond. Worth traveling to a different neighborhood for Indian Clay Pot.

  • *****

My first time at an Indian restaurant I stick with my usual, tikka masala and vindaloo. Everything was very delicious and the vindaloo had a good heat. We sat in the front room which is a little lacking in ambiance with the constant flow of delivery drivers in to pick up orders. The food was solid so we'll definitely be back!

  • *****

    Ordered :
    Garlic naan: good
    Chicken korma: good
Vegetarian biryani: okay. Not much flavor tbh. I had to add my own spices from home
    Roti: alright. Dry

Delicious & very fairly priced, authentic Indian food. Byob, which is nice. The staff was incredibly friendly - gave us suggestions on what to order, came back multiple times asking how we liked the food, and when we asked to take food home they came out with extra rice for us in separate containers without charge. Our waitress also brought out complimentary tea, which was sweet. The chicken tikka masala was delicious- such a classic, but was done so well. The dosa as an appetizer was amazing as well. The food is the best Indian food I have had in Chicago, so will make this a staple, especially since the customer service was excellent as well.

    Delicious!!

I had the aloo gobi and samosa appetizers and chana masala entree w naan. I've been raving about Indian Clay Pot ever sense! Please give them a try, we need them to stick around!!

  • *****

I am being self-interested here. I eat at Indian Clay Pot once a month because I prefer the food served there to any other Indian restaurant in Chicago I have eaten at (5 total), and I want this restaurant to stay open.

This was not only one of the best Indian meals we've had in a long time, but it was also the best delivery we've had. I can't imagine how good it is when you dine in!

We started with the crispy onion pakora. Who doesn't love fried onions? While they did become a bit soggy due to delivery, they were still excellent. We also had the keema samosa. They were incredible! Couldn't get enough of them, with or without the sauce. My husband also wanted us to try the bhel puri, an Indian street food. I was reluctant because I just thought it was too much food, but I'm so happy I caved. This was the star! It was light and filled with flavors I've never experienced before. Party in my mouth. For our entrees, I had the chicken korma. It was creamy and buttery and had a kick of spice at then end that kept me coming back for more. My husband tried the lamb saag. I wish I could comment on how it tasted, but he ate it up so quickly I didn't get to try. I guess that's a grand review right there.

I don't understand why people were upset their entrees didn't come with rice. On the menu it says explicitly if it does or not. Ours both did, but we would have been happy to pay the 3 dollars if it did not. We did get an order of naan, and this is where delivery hurts Indian food. Of course the naan wasn't as good as it could have been, but we just put it in the oven to crisp it up a bit and yumminess ensued.

I also stated when we received our food that the portions seemed a bit small for the price, but I got over that quickly. I think so many people are used to going to Devon Street and getting enormous portions that sometimes we forget we don't need 5 pounds of chicken tikka masala to satisfy us. Also, in terms of price, it was on the more expensive side for Indian, but again, you get what you pay for. I don't complain when I'm going out for a fancy pants dinner to have to pay 30 bucks for an entree, so I won't complain here either. I'm willing to pay if the food holds up, and it truly did.

I can't wait until lunch. We have leftovers.

Good experience here! Stopped in before hopping on the brown line. Pleasantly bustling and busy, nice aromas, seemed like they were doing a good carry out/delivery business in addition to there. BYOB a nice touch. The normal favorites on the menu plus some nice authentic touches. Wanted comfort food so went for chicken tikka masala and garlic naan, which was good. Decent price for quality. Will go back to try other dishes.

  • *****

I'm thrilled to have discovered this wonderful restaurant so close to home. I won't have to drive to Devon St anymore to have great indian food. We ordered a few dishes - delivered by Uber eats - all hot and homemade, all delicious. Can't wait to dine in.

  • *****

This has been our favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago. The food is absolutely amazing and the service is great. We ordered the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala and chili chicken.... all of them were fantastic! Can't wait to eat there again!

  • *****

Tasty food in a bit of an odd place. I wish they gave you more choice on the level of spice. The server joking that because I was British he will get me chicken tikka was a bit offensive too

  • *****

This is probably one of my favorite Indian places around where I live. I've eaten there a few times now and have never really been disappointed. I agree with some other reviewers that rice should be included with an entree, and the price point is moderate for the portion sizes. My go-to's usually include the veggie samosas, butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala. One thing I can't get over is the naan--so delicious! It's amazing freshly baked.

  • *****

LOVE this spot. So happy there is super tasty Indian food in the neighborhood and we don't have to go to Devon Ave. it's BYOB! Always delicious and they have an extensive menu with lots of options. Somewhat pricey, but that seems typical with this cuisine in general.

  • *****

Indian Clay Pot really hit the mark. We were seated immediately, and had our appetizers within minutes.

We eat Indian a lot, and have a group of favorites that we usually get.

    1) Veggie Samosas - crisp, flakey, good
    2) Chicken Tikka Masala - very good
    3) Lamb Saag - the best we have ever had
    4) Naan, Rice, Chutneys were solid

    We will be back, soon!

Awesome food, real authentic Indian cuisine..
    Great customer service..!!!
I wanted to go here every day..

The best Indian food I ever had in Chicago,
Last Saturday we went group of 8 people, around 745pm.the restaurant was packed, no doubt.the food is too good also the service was out standing.
we ordered 4 appetizer including veg and kheema samosa, chillin gobi. as the waitress explained was spicy my friend tom love it and I like gobi Manchurian was non spicy, the fried cauliflower, I never thought a cauliflower can make like that.....
and the restaurant is BYOB.. so we bought some wines near liquor shop just opposite of restaurant.

    I highly recommend theire
    Chicken tikka msala,
    Butter chicken,
    Palak paneer ,
my friends love their lamb vindaloo Gongura lamb Nd chicken korma,

threads were great too. garlic nan, spicy nan ,and also we tried onion naan.
we gonna go back too.highly recommended..

  • *****

The food was great. Nice place and welcoming waiters. I tried different appetizers and food and I recommend Masala Rosa as appetizer. I loved it. I definitely go there again

  • *****

The food was SO yum! Masala Dosa was my fav!!! What a fun dish!! Lovely chef!

  • *****

Absolutely incredible Indian food. Had a taste for it and decided to stop by for dinner - the mango chicken was excellent with garlic naan, and my girlfriend's lamb biriyani was excellent as well! I also highly recommend topping dinner off with the mango kulfi. Parking on this section of Irving Park wasn't difficult on a Sunday night, although you may have a little trouble depending on the time. All and all, I'll definitely be back the next time I'm hungry for Indian.

  • *****

Just had a takeout order of chana masala, one of my favorite meals. It was amazing...probably among the best I've ever had. The place is a bit cramped but if you're looking for good takeout or delivery in Lincoln Square or North Center, this is the place.

  • *****

All the reviews are true. The food here is so good! I'm so glad this Indian spot replaced the not so great restaurant previously in this space.

The service is quick and the staff is so nice. We sat at a table for two by the front door and during our meal I noticed a steady flow of more customers-take out, delivery, and eat in. High demand!

My husband and I ordered the butter naan, chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, and basmati rice. The tikka masala was to. die. for. I wish we ordered 2 plates and another to take home. The curry was great but I asked for medium spiced and it was just a bit too spicy for me. And the butter naan - the best!

I foresee my husband and I going here a lot. We live very close! There's also a Groupon+ for 5% cash back. I know 5% isn't a ton, but just thought I'd mention it.

It's close to the brown line Irving Park stop, so very convenient to order and pick up for dinner.

This is a must try in North Center!

  • *****

Seriously so good. Love the vindaloo - it's legit spicy and such a great flavor! Everything we had was delicious (tikka masala, palak paneer, garlic naan). And the delivery took like 20 minutes, no joke.

  • *****

Overall: Not the best Indian in the world, but Indian Clay Pot more than gets the job done. Bar none to other options in the area.

The good: The dishes were rich and flavorful. We had a large group so we were able to try a variety of different platters, and none of them disappointed. The paneer was rich and thick, the butter chicken was tender, and the clay pot chicken spicy and juicy. The naan was cooked to perfection as well and was a great complement to the dishes. Plus it was BYOB.

The not-so-good: For the amount you pay, the food quantity is disappointing. If I'm paying $12-$15 for an entree, it should be more than 3-4 scoops worth. Didn't include rice or naan either. Which would've been fine if it was half the price. Made sharing difficult among our big group. The atmosphere has a somewhat tacky vibe.

    Food: 8/10
    Atmosphere: 7.5/10
    Service: 8/10

  • *****

I have tried a lot of different Indian restaurants in Chicago and this place has perhaps the best Tikka Masala I have tried.

  • *****

I've been here a few times and love the food. The atmosphere is so nice. All of the staff is so friendly. Tonight my waitress was Ashley and she was above amazing. She was very polite and helpful. She gave great suggestions on what to order. It was really busy but she handled everyone perfectly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

  • *****

I really enjoyed the food here! To me, food is the most important aspect of any restaurant, so this place deserves a 5/5 on its food's taste and quality alone.

The restaurant was quiet on a Sunday evening. It offers a quaint dining area in the back, but still has enough room to accommodate larger groups. The service was also efficient and friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner.

All of the dishes were awesome. I highly recommend the samosas and butter chicken with a side of basmati rice. The butter chicken's sauce was savory, spicy, and just bursting with flavor; it also made a great topping for the naan bread and rice.

One thing I wish they offered was the various chutneys served with naan bread at other Indian restaurants.

If you're looking for delicious Indian food, try this place out!

  • *****

I will admit that I am not the expert on Indian food, but this place puts forward some tasty food! This is certainly a bit of a hidden find!

I came here with a larger group (12) with a reservation. The place is a little tight, but actually much larger than I expected. They say that they have a patio which would probably be awesome in the summer or early fall! They are also a BYOB that had wine glasses on hand and did NOT charge us a corkage free (yeah!!!)

Each person at my table ordered a dish and we passed them around to taste everything. This was a smart way of doing it because we all had a large dish in front of all of us to make our "art" of food and sauces. We also got naan and regular rice.

I got Lamb Vindaloo which was awesome! Exactly want I wanted with the meat and potatoes. I also liked that it was spicy, but not SUPER spicy. I enjoy a good pepper, but sometimes the heat can kill the taste. Not a problem here. The butter chicken was great too which is a good fallback. I was very impressed with the Clay Pot Chicken. It was really flavorful and I think I would get that next time with the Vindaloo.

That brings me to the one drawback I had....The dishes were all great, but they were kind of small for the price. The naan and rice were also a bit smaller for what you paid for. You get four naan and the rice could feed roughly 1 to 1.5 people. The only other drawback I had was that the service was a little lacking. True, we were a large group and the restaurant was hopping when we were there, but the servers were pretty non existent and we didn't really get a lot of service for what we paid for. Oh well, I mean, if that is the worst of the night, we are having a good night.

I will return to this place for sure! It seems to be a great place to take people not as familiar with Indian food because the food was all fantastic and the sauces were on point. This is the real deal!

I was craving Indian food, so I did a quick scan of deliver-able Indian and boy am I happy I landed on Indian Clay Pot.

Having never been in the restaurant or seen the food in person, I did a blind order of lamb masala, garlic naan and two veggie samosas. The lamb masala was perfect- huge chunks of lamb with just enough spice. It seemed like there was a lot of oil floating around, but that could just be due to the delivery packaging/transit. The samosas were hot when they arrived and delicious. Same goes for the garlic naan- hot and garlicky.

I'm hoping to get into the restaurant sometime for an in-house dining experience. Until then, I'm perfectly content enjoying my awesome Indian food on my couch.

  • *****

I kind of randomly picked this place out for delivery as I wanted to try something new. I'm glad I did, it floored my expectations. Non Americanized version of indian food. I could have done without the bhel puri, but loved everything else. Chicken manchurian had just enough heat, chettinad was nicely savory, and the bindi masala, was a stunner. I'll be ordering again.

  • *****

Our first time ordering delivery from Indian Clay Pot and would love to give it 6 stars. Delivery came on time (early, in fact - we ordered early evening). We had vegetable samosas (I could have had an entire meal of them...delicious!), naan, chicken Korma and butter chicken. Everything was hot, fresh and fantastic. Thrilled to have a new option for our regular delivery/ take away rotation!

  • *****

Really great--awesome to have this place in the neighborhood. A good, new go to place.

  • *****

Really fresh and tasty food. The service was really great! Right next to a train stop which makes it super easy to get to for cold days of Chicago

  • *****

Fantastic service low key and savory. South Indian chef deserves the best recommendation! Will plan to return here on next Chicago visit.

  • *****

This Indian food is incredible. I looove spicy food and the Lamb Vindaloo has the perfect amount of spice. The garlic naan and the spicy naan are also fantastic. We ordered take out and it was ready early! Definitely recommend!

  • *****

Fantastic food. Butter Panneer and Daal are both fantastic

  • *****

    Indian clay pot was delicious!
I love Palak Paneer! The buttery, creamy flavor was perfectly balanced and paired great with the cheese. My husband tried the Lamb Vindaloo. It was a great dish! So much flavor and right balance of spiciness. Garlic naan arrived hot and fresh. Only complaint is they skimp on the rice.
    We recommend ICP!

  • *****

I am a very snooty person when it comes to Indian food in Chi town, but this place is amazing. The food is slightly expensive but on point. I got the masala dosa (a bit peeved that the potato masala inside is such less quantity), the Sambar, white chutney and the red chutney ( Indian red peppers and ginger) were pretty baller! They gave me extra chutney when I asked for it.

My friend got Gongura lamb upon my advice and it was wonderfully made. Gongura is a leafy vegetable with a sour taste that goes well with meats like lamb, chicken, beef and shrimp. This is a popular veggie mostly available in Southern parts of india.

Service was awesome, the place was neat. Highly recommend for good Indian food. Will return and try their biryani.

  • *****

Very good Indian fare. Portions are right on the sweet spot; good enough for one without feeling like a glutton, but enough to share with someone and share the dining experience. It can get slow during busy times, so patience may be necessary

  • *****

Homer Simpson would have s field day with this magnificent spot! Bon appetite doesn't even describe how f*cking good this place really is. Me and my gf were walking by and I suggested we stop in, she does not care for Indian food but I love a good curry. So we ventured in and it turns out its BYOB which was freaking awesome, just came from a craft beer shop. We ordered curry chicken spicy, butter chicken and 2 naans(bread) and after the 1st bit of the butter chicken I thought I was transferred to ancient India or something! It felt like my taste buds were having sex with the butter chicken I really don't know how else to describe it? The feeling of eating this food blew all my preconceptions about Indian food out of the water. I love this place so much

  • *****

Authentic (hot) lamb vindaloo and garlic nan. Nice people. Delicious!

  • *****

Really goood food. Little wait but worth every second. Loved the service. Great started little disappointed with mains but all round really good joint.

  • *****

Glad to have a new Indian restaurant in the area and on my route from office to home. My husband and I ordered very standard/traditional dishes, but all were tasty, authentic, and flavorful. Portions were appropriately sized and presented nicely. Our server was polite and friendly and service was spot on. Chef came by the table to say hello and ensure we were happy with the food -that is always a much appreciated nice gesture. Clean and nice ambiance inside -cute decor and traditional Indian music playing in background. Mango lassi was exceptionally delicious. Look forward to returning to support this new local business and try their clay pot dishes.

  • *****

Best Indian food I've had in the city. Went with a friend and ordered plain dosa, masala dosa, lamb clay pot and Baingan Bhartha. The dosa was perfect and the masala flavorful. It comes with 3 sauces, a spicy, lentil, and coconut and cilantro based one. Something for everyone really. You've got spice something cool on the tastebuds and something with deep flavor in the lentil option. The lamb clay pot was amazing!!!! Just rich enough and a decent kick to it. If you are sensitive to spice this may not be the best option for you. If you love spice on the other hand it may leave you wanting a bit more. Regardless the flavor will keep you happy and wanting more. The only thing is I wish there was a little more lamb in the dish. The baingan bhartha (eggplant) was very good but not the best I've had. That said still a great go to. Overall a wonder experience and a must try!

  • *****

I'll start with the atmosphere. It was very warm, natural, welcoming. The location isn't great, under an L stop and on Irving Park but that fades away when you walk in. The food itself was fantastic. I had the Chicken Vindaloo, which was very spicy, as is expected. But it was just so flavorful and delicious. The chef came out and asked every table how their food was, which was a very nice thing to do. The prices were very reasonable, and the portions matched. Definitely going back!

  • *****

Great food, byob, but it can get very loud in the dining room. Lamb vindaloo is super spicy but great!

  • *****

I really enjoyed my meal at Clay Pot; the staff is great, and the food is even better. You can tell the chef really takes pride in his craft the way he speaks to his customers, ensuring their meals are up to par. I had the dosa, and thoroughly enjoyed the accompanying masalas. I'll definitely be back.

  • *****

We had a great experience with takeout from Clay Pot. I was really excited when an Indian food place opened up just a few blocks from my house. I had the Paneer Butter Masala, which is amazing! They had accidentally messed up my mom's meal and they realized before we did! As we were sitting down to eat, they called and texted to let me know that they'd sent the wrong food and that they'd like to deliver the correct food IN ADDITION to bringing me cash to makeup for the price difference they accidentally charged me. It was at my door within ten minutes. Overall, really really good food as well as very nice people and amazing customer service. Thanks for going above and beyond and bringing delicious Indian cuisine to my neighborhood accompanied by amazing service!

  • *****

Loved everything we got there, and the service was great. Try the okra, and that chili fried cauliflower appetizer.

  • *****

My hubby and I were at ICP on Saturday night. They have some delicious dishes! We had the vegetarian samosas and I had the butter chicken and hubs had the chicken masal (medium spicy). We thoroughly enjoyed every morsel. We can't wait to return!

The only thing I would suggest to the wait staff is they should check with their patrons after delivering the food. We did not see our waitress until we were way finished with our meal. But I understand they've only been open for three months so I'm sure they're getting through the kinks. Everything else was great. Next time you are hankering for Indian cuisine please come here. You won't be disappointed.

  • *****

We have now eaten at this great new addition to the neighborhood several times. Consistently delicious! The food and spice is spot on (and customizable). Tonight we tried the Mysore Masala Dosa and it was a perfect texture and spice.

The service is warm and friendly and the atmosphere is appropriate for an Indian spot.

Businesses in this area are a little challenged other than support from the neighborhood. However, the Brown Line delivers you steps from the storefront. Help us keep this gem!

  • *****

My new favorite Indian food spot! Food was excellent as was the attentiveness of the staff. Will be visiting often! Check them out, you won't be disappointed!

  • *****

We just ordered delivery for the first time and the restaurant did not disappoint.
Ample rice, and warm butter naan were in neatly packed containers made eating easy and everything tasted as if we were there. My Dal Makhani was rich and flavorful while my husband's Malai Kofta was excellent beyond words. The lime pickle accompaniment was fantastic.
Though it was difficult to hear the lady on the phone when ordering (due to restaurant noise), the delivery came within the time stated upon ordering.
We can't say enough about how much we enjoy this place!

  • *****

Best Indian food around! We moved to Chicago a year and a half ago and have been trying all of the Indian restaurants around and nothing has impressed us...until now! The dosa are huge and tasty, the chicken korma and dal were delicious, and lamb biryani was so wonderful even my two year old gobbled it up (with extra raita!). The food was all mild as requested but spicy enough to be perfectly flavored. And the servers were lovely. We are so glad Clay Pot opened and will be back soon!

  • *****

Great Indian food - our new favorite in Chicago! Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was great. Very glad this opened up - we'll be back soon!

My new favorite Indian restaurant! I went with my wife, and we cannot wait to go back with a group and try more items. We shared the Chicken Tikka Masala Dosa and Bagara Lamb. Both were flavorful and medium spicy. I could eat this meal on a weekly basis. The garlic naan was crispy on the edge, soft on the top, and perfectly delicious. BYO is a plus.

  • *****

Ate dinner here on a Friday night, and we were super happy with it! The menu is pretty extensive, with a large vegetarian section and clearly marked vegan options as well. We had the Palak Dal and Mushroom Masala with some naan that was fresh-out-of-the-oven warm. Both entrees were delicious, with a decent spice level (not too low, not too high) and large portions. Our waiter was very kind, and the chef came out to ask how we were enjoying the food, which we thought was great.

We'll definitely come back! There's still much more on the menu we need to eat (:

  • *****

Delicious Indian food right off the Irving Park brown line and it's BYOB!! Lamb samosas were excellent, as were the dipping sauces. Chicken Tikka Masala, Basmati rice, and Naan amazing as well. Definitely exceeded my expectations and will be back very soon! Nice atmosphere, bigger thank I imagined, can't wait for patio to open. Service was also above and beyond.

  • *****

Great food and nice staff. Loved it!!

Wide ranging menu, deeply flavorful renditions of chicken tikka masala, and lamb roganjosh.

  • *****

    Magnificent!

  • *****

This place just opened and it's a welcome addition to the neighborhood!

Temporarily they're only offering three sampler platters for the next couple weeks: non-vegetarian, vegetarian, and vegan.

I got the non-vegetarian platter which came with the usual staples like butter chicken, a samosa, lamb korma, naan, and a few other dishes I whose names I don't remember.

Honestly this was probably the nicest plating I've seen at an Indian restaurant, definitely Instagram-worthy.

Welcome to the neighborhood, I'll be back!

  • *****

Stopped by for dinner the other night and was impressed. The sauces had great flavor and the meats were tender. The staff was friendly and attentive and the chef even stopped by to see how everything was. We will definitely be back.

At this point they are doing a tasting menu which gives you a great opportunity to try a bunch of their dishes at a reasonable price. Well worth it.

  • *****

Tasting menu was great! I got the non-veggie option which comes with a fried chicken and samosa app; chicken masala, two lamb dishes, spinach and naan as entrees; rice pudding as dessert. Overall we love the chicken masala the best! My friend got the veggie option and the paneer masala was amazing! The service was great and the chef came out to explain the menu to us. Would definitely come again!

  • *****

We went into Indian Clay Pot for dinner on a Saturday night. They were doing a special sampling menu for their opening week, so we got to try two tasting menus -- one meat and one veggie.

Both menus started with samosas. They were beautifully presented on red and green sauces with fried veggies on the side. Everything in the plate was delicious. The fried chicken pieces were battered in what seemed to be a curry batter--so good!

The four curries that came with the meat tasting menu were: herb lamb (sweet and savory with a taste of garam masala), shrimp saag (deep and rich), gongura lamb (hearty and earthy), and butter chicken (very buttery with a spicy kick--our favorite!). The vegetarian options had the same curry based but with paneer and vegetables instead of meat. They also offered vegan options. The meal came with naan and rice -- both were perfect.

Dessert was a rice pudding-like dish with lots of cardamom. It was a great way to end the meal.

The flavors were some of the richest we've tasted in an Indian restaurant. We highly recommend! Also, they are BYOB and there are two breweries a block away.

    Service was excellent.

  • *****

Delicious sampler plate served for their soft opening. My friend and I took a chance and we very satisfied. They were very receptive to our comments, one of the items was bland and they made us something else. Worth a visit!

  • *****

Dined here yesterday evening and it was great. The butter naan was excellent as was the butter chicken. Chef came by and was very nice and hospitable. Nicely decorated, cozy space. Looking forward to returning in the very near future!

  • *****

Amazing food! The gongura lamb was fantastic! So glad this place opened in the neighborhood.

  • *****

I was really sad that Anna's Thai/Sushi spot had closed down but really happy to see a new Indian spot was opening up which the neighborhood desperately needed. Well I wasn't disappointed by any stretch. Since they opened they are only offering a tasting menu until May 13 when they will open their full menu up. The food was excellent. Perfect amount of spice for my tolerance. The staff was super friendly including the waitress and chef who also stopped by to say hello. Great place. Can't wit to taste the full menu after May 13th

  • *****

The restaurant has only been open one week and they really have it together! The food was some of the best and most flavorful Indian food I have had in Chicago. Many vegan and vegetarian options! Currently they have a tasting menu for another week, but you can also order a full order of just one item if you prefer. Staff is lovely and helpful, and even the chef came out to see how everything was. The interior is pleasant and simple. I believe they have an outdoor patio but we did not go out there. Can't wait for the full menu! A great addition to North Center just steps from Irving Park brown line.

  • *****

Good, interesting food and a nice atmosphere. BYOB and good service, would recommend.

  • *****

It's was a really good experience! Everything was so good I can't wait to come back hopefully in time for patio season!!!

  • *****

We tried Mango Chicken, Butter chicken, herbed rice and Naan: everything was excellent! Creamy curries not greasy at all. Even the herbed rice was so fresh. Naan was crispy and chewy. Can't wait for their Lunch Menu. AND YES BYOB!

  • *****

Delicious food and great service! Servicing sizes are smaller and all meal items are "al la carte". Despite this, I will definitely order from this place again!!

  • *****

The food was great! We had the plain & garlic naan, chicken & lamb korma, veggie samosas, and mango lassi. This neighborhood needed a place for good Indian food! The service was a tiny bit wonky even though the waitstaff was super friendly. Probably just working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. Would definitely go here again and will add that last star if service improves.

  • *****

When we saw that there's a new Indian restaurant close by, we had to go and check it out. It's a good thing that we did because the food was amazing!
We ordered the non veg sampler and full portion of Gongura Lamb. Out of everything that we tried, herb lamb and gongura lamb were definitely my favorite.
The service was absolutely great. The waitress was very friendly and even the chef came to check if we liked the food.
Definitely go this place if you want to have tasty Indian food.

Been craving Indian food lately, but wanted to enjoy it at home and did not want to drive far or have trouble finding parking. Discovered this new place on Yelp that fit the criteria AND reviews have it rated at 5*****. Ordered butter chicken and lamb tikki Marsala. Both were excellent! Sometimes when I get butter chicken, I doctor it up a little, but this was perfect ! Will definitely return. My new go to for Indian !

Great new option for Indian in North Center. The menu was very extensive, with a few options I haven't seen elsewhere. Service was prompt and friendly, our server was even doing double duty at the counter handling takeout orders.

The food was freshly made, hot and tasty. We tried the paneer butter masala and lamb biryani. Both were very good and traditional with their own unique twist. The paneer butter masala was savory and not too sweet like some other places. The biryani was a huge portion with exotic aromatic spices blended in the rice. Garlic naan was fresh and crispy. The mango lassi was refreshing, more yogurt and less of a sweet juice version which was nice. I've since ordered delivery a few times, and the gongura lamb is awesome. Naan was too chewy once. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Overall it was a great experience, and i'm looking forward to trying some of their specialty clay pot dishes next time. I'll definitely keep it in mind as a delivery and takeout option, as it's near Dovetail & Begyle a couple blocks north. (The restaurant is conveniently BYOB).

This place has THE BEST INDIAN FOOD IN CHICAGO. Eating here made me happy from the bottom of my heart. The Chef is very skilled at preparing both North and South Indian dishes. You can tell by the food that the Chef pours his heart into it. His food reminded me of my grandmas cooking! The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Try this place once and you will want to returnbefore you even leave the restaurant!

Update: I went back for the full menu. The food was decent. Everything was overpriced. I almost think that the Chef tried to commit to too many dishes on the menu. It might have been one off day. I will try the food again and change my rating if necessary. Heads up, they don't give rice with curries.

Just tried this place for dinner for the first time! The Inside is really cute and clean, service was great, all staff were super friendly. I wish the food was a bit spicer but definitely worth a try if you like Indian food. Very resonantly priced and it's a BYOB so you can't go wrong there. We will be back!

I've traveled twice to India and a visit to the Indian Clay Pot really sent me swooning down memory lane. The quality and flavors of the dishes were transporting and delicious. Chicken Korma, Bangan Bhartha (roasted eggplant), the naan and the dosa are the real deal. Pleasant, accommodating service. Highly recommended!

Stopped by here on a Saturday night for a quick dinner and I'm glad I did. The food was great - some of the best Indian food I've had outside NYC. My friend and I split the veggie samosas, which were delicious. My entree was the lamb vindaloo, which was very spicy/hot but still flavorful. The waiter warned me that it was going to be spicy, and it was perfect. My spice-adverse friend had the chicken tikka masala and raved about it. I thought that the service was excellent (the waiter teased me a tiny bit about my very midwestern self ordering the spiciest thing on the menu, but in a super friendly way, and he comped us some sweet donut hole things to finish the meal). Everything came out promptly. Happily, they also deliver in my neighborhood and I'm adding them to my takeout rotation. Highly recommended.

Decent food and clean environment. Went around 9 pm, so there weren't many customers-waiters kept coming by to check up on the food. Even the chef came by to ask which was my first!

We found this gem of a restaurant during a visit to Chicago last week. The place was packed on a Thursday night at 8 PM. Our waitress worked very hard to serve the multiple customers and we did have a bit of a wait time as they do seem a bit short staffed. (However she was extremely pleasant). The food was worth the wait! Homemade, not frozen like a lot of Indian restaurants, samosas were delicious as well A very tasty vegetable korma and delicious dosa. My nephew loved the mango lassi! We will definitely return here when in town and recommend it highly.

I went there last with my fiance and two other friends of ours. It was a great experience. The service was attentive, without being overly so. My friend wanted something that she's gotten at other Indian restaurants, but wasn't on their menu. Our server they could make it for her. The chef even came out to talk to her about the dish to make sure it was done how she'd like. He later came out to make sure we all were enjoying our meal. The food was excellent. We all really enjoyed our meal. I had the lamb tikka masala. It was so good. It was nice and spicy without being too spicy. The portions all appeared to be good size, and I feel the price was pretty reasonable. I definitely would come back!

Been here twice so far, have GREATLY enjoyed the food itself both times. Went with groups both times, so have been able to sample a wide variety of dishes (though the menu is VERY extensive, so it'll take quite a few more visits to hit everything).

The various chicken, lamb and veggie dishes we've tried have been delicious. We have asked for "real" spicy for some of them and they brought the heat, which we appreciated. The lamb vindaloo in particular got the sweat going; delightful.

The samosas are quite good and presented with panache; also the chicken pakora appetizer was new to me and super-tasty. The chilli gobi was also amazing, I didn't realize cauliflower could get that tasty.

The ambiance is decent; there's a small front room that faces Irving that has four small tables or so; then a huge back room down past a hallway that can seat multiple large groups easily. They're BYOB and the prices get REAL manageable if you go with a large group and share a bunch of entrees (the only way to dine Indian, in my opinion).

I will second what some other reviewers have said about the service; the staff is lovely, the chef checked in on us both times we were there personally, but they seem overwhelmed a bit if they're even half-full. Minor complaints overall, but I hope they sort that out as a lot of folks are sensitive to that and I would hate to see this restaurant suffer when their food is so on-point. Even with the occasional service glitch, I still heartily recommend this place and suggest you check it out if you're at all into good Indian food.

It's great to have an Indian place within walking distance to home. Great flavors and the meats were tender and well seasoned. Definitely better than some other places in Lincoln Park and even Devon. Even better is that it's BYOB! Will definitely be back and will now be my go to when I have a taste for Indian.

  • *****

What a nice addition to the neighborhood. The food is delicious and the staff is so attentive and the chef even came out to check on things as well. They have done a great job rehabbing the space. We had the lamb saag and Kadai chicken and the flavors were amazing and spicy without being overpowering. Get the garlic naan! We will be back.

I have to start my review by saying the service was incredible! Maybe the best service I've had at any restaurant ever. The waitress we had was so kind and helpful and the owner came to check in on our table a few times too. He was so friendly and delightful and I can't wait to come back.

In terms of food I would recommend the veggie samosas to anyone, they were soo delicious. I was also blown away by the chicken tikka masala. The sauce was very tomato-y and slightly creamy and the chicken itself was so moist and tender.

I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a new Indian restaurant!

My boyfriend and I went tonight kinda short in time before they closed, and we were pleasantly surprised by this cozy place. They made us feel very welcomed even though it was around 9:30pm. The food tasted amazing! And we were in love with the butter naan bread. The chef himself came to our table to make sure we were satisfied with everything which we really appreciate and we had the friendliest waitress ever (I wish I could've asked her name). Give this place a try, great food and awesome service. We will come back for sure to try more dishes :)

We just came back from our second outing and the food was just as great as it was the first time. The grilled, home-made Paneer was of wonderful texture and the Kashmiri Naan was fantastic when you dipped it in the sauce of the Navaratan Korma. I mean, really. You have to do that!
I want to say after reading the bad reviews that,
1: We have always paid for rice in Indian restaurants and we too have eaten it around the world.
2: Our service was not as horrific as described by others. It sounds almost as if people have an axe to grind as the verbiage is very similar.
3: The food for the price is exceptional. This is Chicago, not Indiana. The price is well-within the common cost of good Indian in the city.
This is our new Go-To for Indian food.

Have eaten in twice and ordered out once, and am just really happy to have this place in the neighborhood (even if it means I'm developing a dosa addiction).

The food is delicious (and the menu huge- you'll find something you'll fall in love with), everything cooked with care and great ingredients, and the staff has always been welcoming and attentive. The chef came out my first visit and it was incredibly clear this place is being run by people who want to do well by their customers. Will be back often!

Let me start by saying this is the best Indian food I've had! First, they were so attentive and confirmed with us if we wanted 2 Rice's for both of our dishes, they suggested to order one then if you need another it'll be nice and hot! What a great idea! The chef came out to make sure everything was to our liking, which was very nice! The appetizer was amazing!! Bhel Puri was amazing! Also, Kofta makhani was so yummy and creamy, these dishes could really turn me into a vegetarian!! We asked for rice before we left to eat with our leftovers and they gave us 2 small containers of complimentary rice! We'll definitely be back!!

Hello. It's me. So, we rambled over here in a fit of rambling, which I generally like to do. They were able to seat us posthaste, which was awesome considering it was a lovely Saturday. We ordered the paneer butter masala and haryali chicken, veggie samosa, etc etc. So sheesh, it was great. I took a photo but it was kinda after I began eating , for the record. It's BYOB, so that's like a great thing too.

Butter chicken super good I really recommend it! The restaurant inside looks really pretty too.

Ate here for the first time yesterday and it was great! Attentive service and well-spiced, quality food. The keema samosas were delicious and so was the grilled paneer. And it is BYOB which is a huge plus! Will definitely be back!

  • *****

Pretty good food. Good service. Extra plus is that it's BYOB and there is a liquor store right across the street. We had Chicken Tikka as an app and it was great!!! More sauce, please! Malak Paneer was yummy and the butter chicken was tasty. Just the right amount of spice. Sai- the owner and chef was super friendly. Will for sure come back!!

  • *****

Top notch service, table spacing, and the food. Oh, the food. Great depth of flavors without over salting and "fatting," used by so many joints to enhance weaker flavor profiles. Right off the Brown Line at Irving Park.

  • *****

I had been looking for an Indian restaurant I could go to since I moved to the area. I saw this place on my commute to and from work (it's right next to the brown line) and decided to stop in this weekend.

We came in Saturday just after they opened and were very warmly greeted by the chef as well as a couple servers. We were quickly seated and given the menu. They have a lot of vegetarian options as well! I went for the classic Chicken Korma with Kheema Naan and a mango lassi. My friend went with Lamb Tikka Masala, also with the mango lassi and Naan. We ordered a side of Basmati rice to go with it.

The food came out steaming hot and very nicely presented. We dug in and I was very impressed! The Chicken Korma was spicier than expected (I didn't give any heat suggestions when I ordered, because I generally like mild) but the spice level was perfect! Little bit of a runny nose and packed a good flavor punch. I also knew to sip the lassi to help my tongue if it felt too spicy. The lamb was also an excellent dish and the meat was very tender!

The servers were all very attentive and the chef came by to ask us about our experience. Apparently this place has only been open a couple months. I told them all that I was very impressed with the food and with them.

My tiniest complaint is that basmati rice isn't included with the meal. Seems a little silly to order rice that's pretty cheap and easily prepared as it was just plain. But that is a small thing to worry about and I will absolutely come back for more!

The girlfriend and I tried this place on a limb after I was craving Indian food all day. I'm really glad we came out, because now I think we have a new regular spot in our rotation. The food was very flavorful, and the presentation for all the dishes was great. All the staff were very attentive, and even the chef came over to say hello. The garlic naan was super fresh, if I wasn't so full I would've ordered another basket of it! It is BYOB, so don't forget to B your B!

  • *****

Solid Indian food. All around a great meal and it's BYOB.

They're serious about the spice level, spicy is almost unbearable. The gobi Manchurian, chicken tiki masala, and malai kofta were our favorites. The naan was very fresh, just order the plain.

The chef came out to speak to us after the meal, a very nice touch. Hope this place can last in the neighborhood!

Only competing with one other Indian restaurant in the general vicinity, I think Indian Clay Pot is on to something! It's located just slightly removed from right under the Irving Park brown line stop, which has great foot traffic but can be really hard to see if you're driving. It's a teeny tiny store front, but don't let that deter you.

Service was absolutely fantastic. They genuinely wanted us to love everything, and it shows when the chef comes around to all of the tables to ask for feedback. Everything from the veggie samosas with its two beautiful sauces and presentation, to the namesake clay pot chicken with its rich, spicy coconut sauce, to the chunky tomato tikka masala were spot on. Yes, rice and naan cost an extra $3 each on the side, but I haven't been to a single Indian restaurant outside of Devon Ave that includes it so I'm not complaining.

We had a great experience here and would without a doubt come back. Welcome to the neighborhood!

We live in Avondale and have made the drive to this restaurant twice now. There are a couple Indian restaurants in between, but Indian Clay Pot is becoming our go to spot for Indian cuisine. Food is terrific. We love the Chicken Tikka and the Lamb Roghan Josh. Naan is fantastic. Haven't been able to explore too many more items, but I'm sure we will in the near future. The service is top notch -- the chef even came out to our table to discuss food options given nut allergy. Great attention to detail. We will be back!

Nice little new place in North Center. Very convenient to the Brown Line. It's an enjoyable little space; I look forward to the patio opening. Food was very good and exceeded my expectations. Our server was a little disengaged but not awkward or anything. I'd go back.

  • *****

Great find in the neighborhood, the food was fresh and delicious, warm atmosphere, helpful service, vegetarian and gluten free dishes. Loved it!

  • *****

Delicious and flavorful food. The level of spice is excellent and the food is not oily or heavy. When we told the server it was our first time at Clay Pot, she told the chef and he came out to ask us what type of food we like and offered recommendations. He suggested the cauliflower appetizer (cannot remember the exact name) and it was delicious. The naan is fresh and the staff clearly cares about the quality of food and service. They also appear to have vegan options as well. Great addition to the neighborhood!

  • *****

Great new Indian place! I loved that the curries weren’t greasy like some places can be. Also, the Dosa was the best I’ve had. Nice and crispy! Our curries were pretty mild, so I will ask for some more spice next time we visit.

  • *****

Some of the finest Indian food I've had in Chicago. Lots of "traditional" dishes as well as some western Indian dishes that are much rarer in Chicago. Great experience and highly recommended! So glad have them in the neighborhood!

  • *****

Really great food and staff. Enjoyed the butter chicken very much. I'm usually hesitant to try Indian cuisine because I have a cilantro aversion, but the staff were so helpful in pointing me to dishes and modifying preparations, will definitely be back.

  • *****

The North Center neighborhood has sorely lacked an Indian restaurant, and now we not only have an Indian place, but one that rivals the fare up on Devon! Loved this place - the food is fantastic (they serve north and south Indian fare, which are quite different), and the atmosphere is just what an Indian place ought to be. The food is spiced just right - zesty, but doesn't knock you over. Love this place, and we will visit frequently!

  • *****

Having read the other reviews, I second them. The food is first-rate: well-prepared and generous in portion size. The variety is notable since it represents a variety of Indian cooking styles: north, south and, more rare, Northeast and good Kerala. The staff are helpful and friendly. The location by the Irving Park Brown Line makes it a very easy destination for an excellent Indian meal. And, an added bonus is that it is BYOB.
